Jonathan Coyle

Jonathan joined Longton Legal in 2016 as a Partner. Jonathan has solid experience in medical and professional negligence actions, public liability claims, catastrophic motor vehicle claims, personal injury and property damage litigation.

Jonathan is highly experienced in litigation and was previously employed as a Special Counsel running an insurance litigation practice for 5 years in a mid-tier legal practice acting primarily for claimants and insurers.

He has litigated in Victoria, Queensland and in New South Wales.

He was in-house counsel for five years in the compulsory third party insurance business of NRMA.

Jonathan ran a litigation insurance portfolio at a medium tier firm where he acted on behalf of major insurance companies including Zurich Australia Insurance Ltd, NRMA and QBE Insurance. In a similar role with a larger practice, Jonathan worked with clients such as the Roads and Traffic Authority of NSW, Allianz Australia Insurance and ORICA Australia Ltd. He was a Partner at mid-tier claimant personal injury practice where he worked for nearly 8 years.

He has experience in the District Courts, County Court, Supreme Courts, Courts of Appeal and the High Court of Australia. He recently had success with a matter in the High Court of Australia, successfully appealing his client’s claim which involved the issue of advocates immunity.

Any reference to a “Partner” means an employee with sufficient seniority. Longton Legal is an incorporated legal practice and not a partnership.
